Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to be a certain age to order?
Yes. You must be 21 or older. United States federal law sets the minimum age for buying any tobacco product at 21, in every state, with no exceptions. Age verification and ID may be required at order and delivery.
How are cigars shipped to stay fresh?
We package cigars carefully to preserve humidity during transit. Upon arrival, store them in a humidor at around 70% relative humidity.
Can I return cigars?
Unopened, sealed products may be returned within 14 days. Opened tobacco products cannot be returned for health and safety reasons. Damaged or incorrect items are replaced or refunded — see our Refund Policy.
What payment methods do you accept?
Accepted payment methods are shown at checkout.
Do you ship everywhere?
We ship only where the sale of tobacco products is legally permitted. See our Shipping Policy.
Cigar terms, explained
Product pages use a few words that are standard in the cigar trade but are not obvious if you are new to it. Here is what they mean.
Ring gauge
The thickness of a cigar, measured in 64ths of an inch. A 50 ring gauge is 50/64 of an inch across, a little over three quarters of an inch. A listing written as 6" x 50 means six inches long and 50 ring gauge. Thicker cigars burn cooler and more slowly; thinner ones concentrate the wrapper's flavour.
Vitola, or format
The name of a size and shape combination. A Robusto is short and thick, a Toro is a little longer, a Churchill is long and slim, a Corona is the traditional middle size, and a Torpedo or Belicoso comes to a tapered head. The same blend in a different vitola tastes noticeably different.
Wrapper, binder and filler
A cigar is three layers. The filler is the bunch of leaves at the centre and carries most of the body. The binder holds that bunch together. The wrapper is the single outer leaf, and because it is the leaf your lips touch, it drives much of what you taste.
Maduro, Connecticut, Corojo, Habano
These are wrapper types. Maduro leaf is fermented longer until it turns dark and develops a natural sweetness. Connecticut Shade is pale and gentle. Corojo and Habano are Cuban-seed varieties and bring more spice.
Puro
A cigar whose tobacco all comes from one country. A Nicaraguan puro uses only Nicaraguan leaf.
Body and strength
Strength is how much nicotine you feel. Body is how heavy the smoke tastes. They usually rise together, which is why a cigar is described as mild, medium or full. Mild is a good place to start.
Enjoyment time
Roughly how long the cigar takes to smoke at an unhurried pace. It follows the size: a short cigar is half an hour, a large Toro or Churchill can run past ninety minutes.
Singles, packs and boxes
Most listings offer more than one presentation. A single is one cigar, good for trying a blend. Packs hold a few. A box is the full manufacturer's box, and the count is in the option name.
